Okra, also known by the names muskmelon or edible ketmia, is a plant of African origin whose fruits are a popular ingredient for American, Caribbean, Creole, Indian and even Korean dishes. In its raw form, it is hard and juicy, but when properly prepared (grilled or fried) it is characterized by a pleasant texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Long-cooked, on the other hand, it acquires a spreading, somewhat mucilaginous texture that naturally thickens dishes and soups such as gumbo or okro.
Directions for use: drain okro from the marinade and cook according to the recipe. Do not consume raw!
